Job Summary and Skills
As a SQL Database Consultant you will be responsible for supporting customers to help make their SQL implementations successful. You will work across multiple aspects of SQL Server, both on premise and in the cloud.
Responsibilities may include:
- Help customers select the most appropriate version of SQL Server. Options can include Standard or Enterprise Edition, SQL on an Azure VM, Azure Managed Instance or Azure SQL.
- Provide recommended hardware or VM sizing to support customers’ workloads.
- Help implement best practices including SQL Server installation, configuration, backup and maintenance plans.
- Troubleshoot performance issues, including identifying root cause and recommending solutions. Recommendations may include indexes, use of compression, index maintenance, as well as hardware changes or upgrades to newer version of SQL Server.
- Implement or advise on implementation of high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions.
- Perform SQL Server version upgrades.
- Perform SQL Server migrations from on-premises to cloud.
Required Skills:
- Knowledge of SQL Server on-premise versions from SQL Server 2008 R2 to SQL Server 2017
- Knowledge of Azure SQL
- Database Administration experience including installation, configuration, backup and maintenance plans
- Experience with high availability and disaster recovery implementations
- Experience with SQL Server version upgrades
- Experience with cloud migrations.
- Performance tuning experience
- Effective verbal and written communications
Desired Skills:
- One of more Microsoft database certifications such as 70-464, 70-465, 70-473,70-761, 70-762, 70-764, 70-765
- Knowledge of Power BI
- Experience with other aspects of SQL Server (SSIS, SSRS, SSAS)
- Experience with other aspects of Azure, such as provisioning and managing VMs
- Experience in a consulting or SQL Server sales support role
