Overview:
The Project Systems Engineer plans, implements, and supports multiple Microsoft server technologies and solutions. The position will be the key system owner for multiple technologies responsible for project design and implementation work as well as escalated support.
Major responsibilities of the position are listed below. To perform the job successfully, the individual must be able to execute each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties, assignments and specific projects may be assigned at the discretion of executive management.
Responsibilities:
- Acts as lead virtualization engineer for the team supporting both VMWare vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V
- Participates in the design and implementation of enterprise systems using Microsoft technologies.
- Plans major system upgrades and coordinates with support teams for next day support.
- Maintains enterprise systems and servers in support of business processing requirements.
- Follows documented change control procedures for all system changes.
- Works as part of a distributed team utilizing multiple collaboration technologies.
- Monitors and tunes systems for optimum performance and handles capacity planning.
- Facilitates vendors service and system upgrades with project management teams and users to ensure systems availability.
- Helps coordinate activities and technology projects between business partners and the IT Operations team.
- Identifies issues and recommends solutions.
- Develops and promotes standard operating procedures.
- Interfaces with vendors, service providers, business partners, project management team and users.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Associate degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent in education and business experience.
- 5-7 years of experience implementing and supporting virtualization technologies including both VMWare and Microsoft Hyper-V
- 5 years of experience leading projects to design and implement enterprise systems
- Experience working with converged/hyper converged solutions
- Strong understanding of server hardware (HP, Dell, ETC.)
- Intermediate understanding of enterprise storage (e.g. HP, EMC, Dell, ETC.)
- Strong understanding of networking (e.g. TCP/IP, VLANs, Trunking, Ether-channel)
- Exposure to cloud technologies and hybrid infrastructure (e.g. AWS, Azure)
- Experience with Backup technologies and Disaster Recovery
- Experience working remote with a distributed team
Desired Experience:
- Experience with Microsoft Azure and Office 365 offerings
- Experience implementing and supporting Microsoft Azure Stack
- Experience working with Microsoft SCCM and/or SCOM
- Intermediate understanding of Microsoft Exchange and Skype
- Intermediate understanding of Microsoft Active Directory
- Basic knowledge of Linux (RHEL, SLES)
- Current Microsoft and/or VMware certifications a plus
